Is my password ever sent to your servers?
No. PassTip runs entirely in your browser. Passwords are generated locally using your device's cryptographic random number generator, and no data is ever transmitted to any server. Even if you use the app offline, it works the same way.
How does the WiFi QR code work?
PassTip encodes your WiFi network name and password into a standard QR code format. Anyone with a smartphone can scan the code with their camera, and their phone will automatically connect to the network - no need to type in the password. It works with WPA/WPA2/WPA3 networks.
What's the difference between a password and a passphrase?
A password is a random string of characters (like kR$7nPx2mQw9vLbY), while a passphrase is a series of words separated by a delimiter (like river-marble-jungle-frost). Passphrases are easier to remember and type, and can be just as strong when you use enough words.
Can I use PassTip on my phone without installing it?
Yes. PassTip works in any modern mobile browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, etc.) without installation. If you'd like to use it offline or add it to your home screen for quick access, you can install it as a PWA - look for the install button in the header.
How secure are the generated passwords?
Each character in a PassTip password is drawn from a cryptographically secure random source (crypto.getRandomValues). A 16-character password mixing letters, digits, and symbols has roughly 95 bits of entropy - strong enough to resist brute-force attacks for billions of years with current hardware.
Can I share the exported WiFi card with guests?
Absolutely. Use "Save as Image" to download the card as a PNG, or "Print Card" to open a print dialog. The exported card shows the QR code, network name, password, and any notes you added - perfect for sharing with guests or keeping as a backup.
Does PassTip store any of my data or browsing history?
Passwords, notes, and WiFi settings stay in your browser session and are never stored on our servers. We use Google Analytics for anonymous usage stats such as pages visited and device type — no password data is ever sent. Theme preference may be saved in localStorage, and the app shell can be cached by the service worker for offline use. See our Privacy Policy for details.
